James Nash

I have been in sales all my life and invented the wine in a glass which featured on dragons den.

I joined the club the year it moved to this site. I’ve worked hard to improve my game and have been on the BLTC Committee three times.  My interests are fine wine and making BLTC the best club it could possibly be.

BLTC Responsibilities:

Since the last AGM I have been the Chairman of BLTC. I also serve on the Strategy, Finance and Tennis Committees.

Current Key Tasks:

Making sure that the Board and committees all work well together.

Helping put together several development projects and the Five Year Plan.

Picking up all the loose balls – including the Saturday and Tuesday mixers.

Message to Members:

This is my club.  I hope you all feel that it is also your club.  Let’s make it an even better club.

Chris Davies

I have always been a keen tennis enthusiast, starting in the back garden at the age of 5, and I have managed to keep it going in various clubs around the country and have been a member of BLTC for 22 years or so.

When not playing tennis I am a keen cross country skier and a devoted follower of the Welsh rugby team.  I also enjoy playing the cello, guitar or piano when I am not running around!

Now that I have retired from my career in BT as a Programme Manager I can devote the time to improving my tennis which is long overdue!

BLTC Responsibilities:

On joining the Board I have been asked to lead the Project to consider the introduction of Padel Tennis to the club. I have also been asked to lead on the Systems developments so that we make the most use of technology to streamline all aspects of the various processes which are fundamental to the club (collection of membership fees, booking courts, lighting etc)

Current Key Tasks:

  • The Padel Committee is preparing to seek a mandate from Members to do further work on the business case for the introduction of this very popular sport.
  • The Systems Committee is looking to upgrade the technology which controls lighting to make it simpler and avoid the unduly troublesome process of paying for lights with tokens.

Message to Members:

The Board want to hear your views in order that you can influence the direction of the club so please do respond to the various surveys that we will be issuing in the coming months.

I look forward to seeing you on court.

Richard Ley

I have played tennis from an early age representing my school at Schoolboy Wimbledon, winning the Cornish Schools’ Tennis Cup and captaining my University college team.  Tennis then took a back seat until moving to West Byfleet, when I joined BLTC in 2007.

My other interests include watching rugby (my playing days are well over), photography, travel and gardening.  I am married to Jeannie and have two grown-up daughters and one very young grand daughter.

I had a busy career spanning academia, the scientific civil service and private industry but am now thoroughly enjoying retirement.

BLTC Responsibilities:

As one of the only three current Directors of the club, my responsibilities include chairing the Management and Finance Committees as well as representing the Board on the Facilities and Strategy Committees.

Current Key Tasks:

  • The Management Committee’s main task is working with our Club Manager to ensure the smooth running of the club. With the recent employment of a Head Coach, there is considerable scope to improve the overall coaching experience for members and this is a goal we have set ourselves.
  • Both the Finance and Facilities Committees report into the Management Committee. Having set this year’s budget, my task is to ensure that the Club’s running costs do not exceed their allocations. A second task involves improving and maintaining the Club’s facilities, including the lighting and drainage. We have just received planning permission for lights on courts 4 and 5

Message to Members:

The Board want to hear your views in order that you can influence the direction of the club so please do respond to the various surveys that we will be issuing in the coming months and, if there is something you think can be improved, then come and have a chat.

I look forward to seeing you on court.

Judy Maycock

I have over 30 years’ experience of working in the Tennis, Fitness and Leisure Industry in both the Public and Private sector operations and Management at senior level.

I enjoy Tennis, Cycling, Walking, Swimming, Yoga and anything fitness focused. Due to a Triathlon injury, I am currently unable to play Tennis, but I am very much hoping to be back “on court “before too long.

BLTC Key Responsibilities

My initial Focus has been to build a robust foundation of sound operations from which I can support the Board in the various initiatives which will serve to enhance the overall member experience. I am keen to ensure that the smooth operation of the Club allows members to maximise their enjoyment and potential within Tennis whilst also being part of a vibrant, fun and exciting BLTC membership community.

Current Key Tasks

The Management Committee is central to my role at BLTC, but I also sit on the Tennis, Facilities (House and Ground), Membership, and Strategy Committees. In addition, I am working on the Membership and systems development projects. In practical terms this means I have an overview of all things operational, whilst also looking into the future strategies that will take the Club forward.

I am working closely with the Tennis coaches and Tennis Committee to ensure that we review the opportunities for both casual and competitive play and over time aim to develop and offer an exciting and innovative programme which covers all ages and abilities.

Message To Members

Thank you to all those members I have met to date and who have made me feel so welcome. There is clearly a strong community of people who have a huge passion for tennis, and to those members I have yet to meet please do pop in to say “hello”. I wish to add my thanks to the current and previous Board and Committee members who freely give so much of their time to support the running of the club and have been essential in assisting me in learning more about the Club and gaining an understanding of the extensive work done to date. I look forward to seeing you all on court soon.

John Thistlethwaite

I am delighted to have recently joined the club as your new Head Tennis Coach.  I have played tennis all my life and have twenty years of coaching experience.  In 2018, I passed the UKs highest coaching award and achieved my LTA Level 5 Master Club Coaching badge.

BLTC Key Responsibilities

Overall responsibility of every aspect of the tennis coaching programme at BLTC.

Current Key Tasks

I will be working with Judy and the team to review the tennis section in the coming months and implement changes where necessary.  I want to ensure we offer something for every level of player and to create a great atmosphere around the club through tennis social events and tournaments for adults and juniors.

Message to Members

I am really looking forward to meeting you all in the coming weeks, both on and off court, and I am fully committed to providing you with the highest standards in coaching here at BLTC.  Our main aim is to help you maximise your potential no matter what your level of tennis, and most importantly to have fun when playing.
